"It would be best to come early, as it gets busy later. The fish dumplings here use a pork based binder rather than fish paste to hold the mixture together. If you’re a pescaterian who avoids pork, this may be a problem. In terms of taste, though, it’s magnificent and a very creative way to enhance the flavors of the fish. The spinach wontons are great. You may be lucky to receive a complimentary peanut appetizer. Included on the menu are Pan Fried Dumplings which are large, onion pancakes which are excellent and crispy, xiao long baos that are plump and juicy, and Shanghai rice cake that is both tender and delicious. Mama's Lu provides a nice alternative to Din Tai Fung if you're looking for great dumplings in LA."
