Jenny Wu: A Good, Bad, & Fab Woman

member interview   |   By Privy Concierge

Jenny Wu is a force to be reckoned with. So much, in fact, that the Privy member, fashion lawyer and blogger of good, bad, & fab  was eyed by CBS and subsequently cast on The Amazing Race. This season, The Amazing Race has put a hefty spin on the usual partner dynamic that so many of its viewers identify with today: each contestant on the show is set up with a random partner of the opposite gender. The gorgeous and intelligent fashionista flexed some serious muscle this season by roughing it out in different challenges and navigating difficult communication with her teammate.

We had the privilege of interviewing this good, bad, and fab woman about her life leading up to this monumental moment on national television, her thoughts on love and dating, and what she’s up to next:

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born in Shanghai and moved to the U.S. with my parents at age seven. While growing up in Arcadia, my parents were strict and stressed the importance of education. So I grew up thinking I had to either be a doctor, accountant or lawyer. And since I was horrible at math, I decided to take the law path. I went to USC for both undergrad and law. After graduation, I became in-house counsel at a fashion company working on IP and contract law. To alleviate the stress of my day job, I started good, bad, & fab-- a fashion blog. It took off and soon I was working with some of my favorite fashion and beauty brands creating sponsored content, making beauty and fashion videos, and hosting in-store events. About two years ago, I decided to bite the bullet and quit my day job to blog full-time. And it was the best decision I've ever made!

How did you end up applying for The Amazing Race?

I sent in an audition tape with a girlfriend of mine. We are both huge Amazing Race fans and love traveling and experiencing new adventures. After submitting the video, they called me back the next day and said they were pairing up strangers for the new season and wanted me to move forward in the audition process. I called my friend, got her blessing, and then went through a few more rounds of auditions

3.

What was different this season on the show? How was your overall experience?

For the first time ever, the 11 teams on The Amazing Race are all dating couples! And the twist? Five of the teams are blind dates--strangers racing around the world together! I basically go on the most extreme blind date ever!

4.

From your video, it said that you were fresh on the dating scene at the time. What are you looking for in a man?

A big brain, witty banter skills and a good heart!

5.

Describe your ideal date:

A sunset hike, pizza and red bean ice cream for dinner. And if I like him, I'll bring him home and we'll dance, dance, dance to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk!” If he can keep up, then he's a keeper!

6.

Coming back onto the dating scene in the era of Internet dating and the emergence of apps like Tinder, how was your personal experience and what are your views on them?

To be honest, I have not tried online dating but my brother works at Hinge so I've definitely heard colorful and wildly entertaining stories from him and my girlfriends. I think it's natural and inevitable to utilize the Internet to date. I mean, we use it for practically everything, so why not for love? But watch out for people who take photos that are highly filtered or always from a certain angle because that means you'll be meeting a different face!

7.

What's in store for you in the next five years?

I want to continue creating stories, expanding my media presence, and inspiring girls to be fearless, fierce and fabulous!
