Privy Private Event - Only the Privy Play in Vegas

By Deron Quon

The adage that getting ahead is all about who you know, aptly applies to having fun too. From May 21 to 23, Privy (Privy.net), the social network and travel platform for jetsetters and key influencers, collaborated with some of Vegas' hottest spots for three days of entertainment, social networking, and celebration. The private event, Privy's "The Hangover Weekend," was sponsored by new luxury casino and hotel, Aria in the City Center in Las Vegas.

Any trip to Las Vegas is accompanied by an adrenaline rush, but upon entering the driveway of Aria at City Center, surrounded by soaring mirrored glass and a cascading wall of water, is enough to get one's heart racing a tad bit more. Once inside, one is instantly stuck by the contemporary design and spacious feel of this hotel and casino. This is not a casino of gimmicks or themes, but one of sophistication and discerning tastes; wood and stone elements, minimalist design, and geometric glass windows...

The eventful weekend started at the stunning Union Restaurant & Lounge. Privy founders Steve Liu and Linda Kim mingled with incoming revelers from across the country; heralding from Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. In attendance was World Series of Poker Champion, Johnny Chan, in Las Vegas for a $750,000 poker tournament. The Union Restaurant & Lounge, situated just off of the casino floor made it easy to see the bustling casino action nearby. The low lit, gold hue of the lights, walls, and tables made the lounge appear to glow juxtaposed to the surrounding dark wood floor and stylishly curved wood fixtures.

Privy members were treated to dinner that night was at the Aria Buffet, the only buffet in Las Vegas to feature Maine lobster with the meal. Brightly lit and spacious, the Aria Buffet was a perfect place to host a large group of guests in adjoining tables. Highlights of the buffet were the lobster, of course, and the fresh scooped gelato bar with all of the toppings and decadent French macaroons.

The Suite Party during Friday night was generously hosted in one of the luxurious Aria Sky Suites, which provided a stunning panoramic view of the Las Vegas Strip from the 50th floor. The mega suite featured floor to ceiling glass and contemporary art at every turn. Guests were able to mix and mingle and were served from an Aria provided bartender. Dance music was provided from none other than the in-suite music channels; and the party lasted until the sun came up at six in the morning.

Party goers also were invited to Haze, the newest nightclub on the Strip located in Aria. The capacity crowd waited in lines by the lobby entrance watching as Privy members made their way into the exclusive nightclub. Upon entering the packed dance floor people walked past a human display of two women, artfully and seductively greeting club goers as they made their way to the bar and dance floor. Go-go dancers surrounded the dance floor which could be viewed from multiple levels which added further spice to the party.

As if Friday's festivities were not enough, Saturday day, guests were treated again to the VIP treatment at the exclusive Liquid pool party. The Privy cabana, located in an upper section with private pool that overlooked the main pool and lounge area, featured a 40" LCD TV, mini fridge, and WIFI. Guests were also treated to full Grey Goose bottle service, champagne, and one of the best burgers in Las Vegas, the Kobe Burger, Kobe beef, brioche bun, greens, and an onion ring and cheddar cheese.

Saturday's dinner was held at Union Restaurant & Lounge in the private room, a room typically reserved for an intimate crowd of celebrity-type patrons. Designed by internationally renowned hospitality designer Adam Tihany, this room featured high backed chairs and a long twenty foot wood table made from a solid piece of wood. The cuisine was contemporary-American from the kitchen of Chef Brian Massie, featuring USDA Prime Natural beef and a chef's nightly tasting menu. Saturday night's festivities again included VIP treatment at Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock and an uber suite party hosted by Dr. Paul Song. Privy members were treated to a private table and bottle service. Vanity Nightclub featured a large, long dance floor with an exquisite LED lit ceiling that created vibrant colors, and high backed booths with platforms; perfect for the women who liked to be seen dancing above the crowd below. The outside smoking area featured private cabanas and a toasty fire pit.

The Privy crowd in attendance had its own notable members, such as film and TV producer Teddy Zee, Joe and Heidi Wang, The Amazing Race Season 16 contestants, Penny Wei, host of her own program on KCAA, Dr. Paul Song, CNN commentator, and Emily Liu, actress and producer. Media executives included Ted Kim, Executive Vice President of CJ Entertainment, Chris Chen, Vice President at Endgame Entertainment, Ed Mun, Creative Director at TBWA Chiat Day, Daniel Cho, online manger of Macy Grey, Lifehouse, and C.S. Lee, and Daniel Sakai, Vice President of CBS Interactive. There were also other notable business and finance members such as Jeremy Zhu, Managing Director of the Wedbush Opportunity Partners hedge fund, Bennett Kim, Managing Principal at real estate fund Big Rock Partners, Lee Chen, Vice President at UBS securities, Jimmy Si, Vice President of sales at technology consultancy the Gartner Group, Billy Kang, Chief Operating Officer of Clothing by Firenzii, Rob Yap, legal counsel for TotalCall, and Clinton Foy, General Counsel and Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs at Square Enix. Some Privy entrepreneurs who attended included Michael Ni, founder of VeraFirma, Marcus Kwan, founder of the Wokcano group of restaurants, and Deron Quon, co-founder of Menus.com and international call center company CTI. Privy founder Steve Liu was also a panelist at the Asian American Advertising Federation conference in Las Vegas that week. Steve's talk underscored how multinational companies can expand their consumer brand presence and loyalty through leveraging the network power of social influencers and connectors in the Asian community through organizations like just like Privy.

The long weekend concluded on Sunday again at Liquid, providing guests one last chance to relax and re-hydrate before returning back home. Privy's "Hangover Weekend" proved to be worthy of its exclusive billing by providing top notch access to world class venues and a truly great time for members...all without the need of a tiger and a baby.
