Privy 5 Overview

Share |

The Porter House, New York, prevails under Michael Lomonaco's tender ministrations – this chef survived September 11, by being late for work at Windows of the World, where he was executive chef. NYC is the birthplace of the porterhouse cut, and where the chop-house food formula was invented. There is no frippery on the steaks at this joint Michael sticks to the time honored blue-print; to deviate would be at his peril – others have tried and failed. Magnums of Cabernet are on display for expense-account-driven meat eaters, the décor is club-like shades of brown, suitable for a mad carnivores den with a bar up-front and TV tuned-in to the ball game. There are a profusion of bovine cuts, with porterhouse being prolific, and an outstanding chilie-rubbed rib eye. While for appetizers the pan roasted oysters with cream, bacon bits and tarragon, beats the pants off any chopped salad.
