The Super Heeb Sandwich is one of the best deli sandwiches in NYC, and the much maligned herring is hand-salted and home-smoked over oak chips to a delicate buttery texture and flavor. Russ & Daughters knows the deli business and so they should, this has been a family owned concern for four generations. They have served slabs of Nova smoked salmon over freshly sliced bagels since 1914, from the same Lower East Side landmark. Meticulously old fashioned, this deli is a shrine to Eastern European, Jewish gastronomy. The cream cheese is whipped, the bagels hand rolled and all you need to bring with you is a good appetite for luxury.
