It was actually around 2005 when chocolate cafes began their business here in Korea, the time when there’s a “cacao boom” in the country. Cacao is a general term they used for dark chocolates with high concentration of its raw ingredient. Drinks, slim bars, and ice cream are common products derived from cacao. Since then, several chocolate specialty shops emerged to fully satisfy each chocoholic cravings. As the name connotes, Cacao Boom is a haven for chocolate lovers. Thanks to the inspiration from Belgium’s rich chocolate culture, this specialty shop has finally materialized in Hongdae, Seoul. Having lived in Belgium himself for eight years, the owner Go Young-Joo made sure his shop has more offerings to chocolate fanatics. Best sellers here include: almond, organic strawberry and green tea truffles as well as dark chocolate-covered orange peels. Hot chocolate is served three ways ― mild, original and strong ― according to the milk-to-cocoa proportion. Their delectable chocolate cake is not home-baked, but is equally popular.
