Occupation: Nonprofit Entrepreneur

Last Education: MIT

Climate change seems to be the hot topic in U.S.-China relations these days, as the two nations continue talks about reducing greenhouse gas emissions leading up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen Convention this December. Shanghai-based Peggy Liu, founder and Chairperson of the Joint U.S.-China Cooperation on Clean Energy, shares with us about Privy Nonprofit Partner JUCCCE, making the world a better place, and some of her favorite Shanghai sights.

1.   What do you like about Privy or the promise Privy offers?

JUCCCE is about bringing influential people together to tackle one of the world's greatest challenges-energy. Privy helps me find likeminded people to join in our cause and allows me to connect with them over good meals when I travel.

2.   Can you tell us a bit about JUCCCE? How did it start?

JUCCCE is a non-profit organization whose mission is to accelerate the greening of China through international collaboration on impactful programs. Thanks to the urging of Chinese and US government officials, JUCCCE was launched out of the MIT Forum on the Future of Energy in China (April 2007). We bring together leaders from many sectors in an effort to change the way China creates and uses energy within 10 years.

3.   You were honored as one of Time Magazine's Heroes of the Environment in 2008 and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2009. How did it feel to be publicly recognized for all of your efforts?

To be highlighted as one of "ten who make a difference" on the cover of Time Magazine is an unbelievable honor. And it is a great privilege to be placed in the company of so many amazing leaders at WEF. I hope people recognize that I am only the most public face of what is a very large and effective network of "heroes" working to change the world. I view these honors less as a personal accomplishment as much as a tool to help further the mission of JUCCCE. The publicity surrounding JUCCCE has helped us attract top talent and passionate people to our cause.
