Privy 5 Overview
Carnegie Deli opened in 1937 and is renowned for being the deli where new New Yorkers take their first “authentic” meal. It is a schmaltz-fest, and hoards of tourists head direct to the Carnegie Deli before they even think of hitting the Met. You can feel the love, and understand why it is still thriving - apart from the fact of the supersized sandwiches. Carnegie is not artificial; it is more like a loving hug from a distant smelly relative – real! Grease, comedy, fat and schmaltz exude from world-famous, insanely sized portions of corned beef, pastrami and sour pickles. Historically, Carnegie deli has caused more heartburn than anything ever heard of but nevertheless is a must-try institution in New York.
