Privy 5 Overview
Ippudo is a Japanese chain and the NY store is its maiden American opening. This is not a slurp and run noodle joint, it is however bustling, surprisingly modern and a large group of dining rooms. The hand-made ramen is the touted draw card, and these can be seen being made in a downstairs, windowed preparation room. While the ramen is good, the appetizers are great and I am not a great noodle fan no matter how good it is touted to be. Tonkotsu or pork bone ramen is supposedly the best, but the akamaru modern ramen and the chef's-choice appetizer plate are better. This consists of beef tataki and rich kakuni stewed pork, while the ramen is infused with black garlic oil, slices of white pork and red miso – in one word "addictive".
