Chinese-Australian entrepreneur Jules Kwan, previously a founding partner of award-winning media company Mailman Ltd., has experienced his most recent success as a co-founder and Managing Director of URBN Hotels Shanghai. URBN is China's first carbon neutral hotel and has been named to Conde Nast's Hot List for the past two years. Jules takes a pause from his busy schedule to share with Privy about URBN, angry wild boars, and vacationing in Thailand.
1.
What do you like about Privy or the promise Privy offers?
Privy allows for some insider connections to some of the most happening spots on the planet; that's important when you do a lot of traveling!.
2.
With the success of URBN Shanghai, do you have immediate plans for expansion? What would you like to see URBN be in the future?
Yes, we are currently negotiating to open four new hotels. As far as the future of URBN, I see it as a brand that will diversify into other industries, while maintaining the core brand value of sustainability as its foundation.
3.
Is it true you came to Shanghai with only 200 dollars in your wallet? What possessed you to do such a thing? And are you amazed to see how far you've come?
Yes, and it was Australian dollars too! For me, it was all about the adventure-the journey and not so much the destination. It has been an amazingly fun, interesting, and difficult ride.

You're originally from Sydney, Australia, right? How long have you lived in China, and what has kept you there?
